THE BLEEDING EDGE
I was fortunate enough to be tapped by Academy Award nominated directors Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering to work as a cinematographer for a year, being the main shooter who would follow one of the characters in their feature documentary about malpractice within the medical device industry.
The character I followed – Angie – was an activist and victim of alleged medical malpractice on behalf of Bayer. The birth control device product – Essure – was removed from the US Market in the wake of the films revelations.
After premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, it went on to be nominated for a Peabody Award for Best Documentary Film, a Grierson award for Best Science Documentary and won the George Polk aware for Medical Reporting. Entertainment Weekly added the title to a list of documentaries that changed the world.
